Escape the Freezer

If you carefully position the ice packs in the right place, by the time you arrive at the camp site and settle in front of the fire, the esky will be nice and cool – and the first drink you crack open refreshing and icy cold!
An ice pack was never designed to be left in the freezer. It’s primary purpose is to spend its time out of the freezer, literally changing the climate that surrounds it.
An ice pack is always placed in a situation where everything around it is trying to take it back to room temperature – a temperature that makes no difference at all. The temptation for some ice packs are to stay safe in the freezer. However these ice packs will never discover the adventure of the unknown or the smell of the camp fire.
Obadiah was someone who may have been tempted to run and hide from the recently appointed king of Israel, who ‘did more evil in the eyes of the Lord than any of the [kings] before him’ – 1 Kings 16:30
However Obadiah sensed that there was a reason he was the palace administrator. He realised that he had the opportunity to change the spiritual climate of the nation – and that he had been strategically positioned by God for a greater purpose. Obadiah refused to stay in the freezer!
Obadiah saw his chance, and made the most of the opportunity:
‘Obadiah was a devout believer in the Lord. While Jezebel was killing off the Lord’s prophets, Obadiah had taken a hundred prophets and hidden them in two caves, fifty in each, and had supplied them with food and water’ (18:3-4)
Because of Obadiah’s courage, 100 prophets were saved from certain death and set free to live out their God-given destiny.
If you feel like an ice pack in a situation where the temperature is different to what yours is, then be courageous. Don’t dream of retreating back into the freezer, but recognise that like Obadiah, you have been called to change the climate of the place you have been strategically positioned!
There will always be times that an ice pack will need to spend time in the freezer. But a game is never won by those on the bench, but by those who after being refreshed for a moment are back out on the court giving everything they’ve got!
