Launch Pad

A spring board exists to elevate those who stand on it.

The cameras never focus on the diving board, but on the hopeful Olympian diver reaching for the ultimate prize. And although the launch pad is the key focus in the lead up to take off, once the rocket has lifted off, it’s completely forgotten as the focus shifts to the vessel hurtling through space.
The only time a spring board or a launch pad is noticed however, is when something goes wrong, as the diver has no chance at glory and the rocket shop remains stranded.
King David had a plan to enter into new territory himself. It was in his heart to build a temple for God, and it became an obsession that consumed him. However in the midst of his excitement, God told him that it would not be him, but his son that would build the temple. But instead of becoming bitter, David decided that he would become the springboard that would help to launch his son into even greater success:
‘David said to Solomon: “My son, I had it in my heart to build a house for the Name of the Lord my God. But [God told] me: ‘You are not to build a house for my Name… but you will have a son named Solomon who will build a house for my Name… and I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel forever’ – 1 Chronicles 22:7-10 (NIV)
David began to realise that his purpose had shifted from proving himself in the present to preparing for the future, so he began to build a launch pad like no other:
‘David said, “My son Solomon is young and inexperienced, and the house to be built for the Lord should be of great magnificence and fame and splendor in the sight of all the nations. Therefore I will make preparations for it… [before my death]” (22:5)
Instead of being intimidated by Solomon’s success, David celebrated it:
“Now, my son, the Lord be with you, and may you have success and build the house of the Lord your God, as he said you would’ (22:11)
The sooner we can shift from proving ourself in the present to preparing for the future generations, the sooner we will discover that true fulfilment is not found in being the one who is launched, but in being the one who helps to propel others into their destiny!
