Your Prophetic Voice

As Oscar balances on the knifes edge of shrinking back in fear or stepping forwards with confidence, it’s my words that have the power to tip him in either direction.
Although we may pretend it’s not the case for us grown ups, the words we speak have a profound impact on the lives on those around us. When my own confidence is low there is nothing like an encouraging word to lift me out of my form slump and spark me back into action.
Anyone who has set out to achieve anything of significance will tell you that the second they to step out of the status quo they faced a barrage of all kinds of discouragement seeking to stop them in their tracks. This was no different for the people of Israel who encountered huge opposition as they set out to rebuild their nation on the ruins of a failed past:
‘Then the peoples around them set out to discourage the people of Judah and make them afraid to go on building. They bribed officials to work against them and frustrate their plans’ – Ezra 4:4-5
But in the midst of this overwhelming discouragement, God sent two men to be His prophetic voice to spark them into action:
‘At that time the prophets Haggai and Zechariah prophesied to the Jews in Judah and Jerusalem. Zerubbabel and Jeshua responded by starting again to rebuild the Temple of God in Jerusalem. And the prophets of God were with them and helped them’ (5:1-2)
As the people of Israel balanced on the knifes edge of shrinking back in fear or stepping forwards into their future, it was the prophetic voice that tipped them forwards into the good things God had planned for them:
‘So the Jewish elders continued their work, and they were greatly encouraged by the preaching of the prophets Haggai and Zechariah son of Iddo. The Temple was finally finished, as had been commanded by the God of Israel’ (6:14)
Although some people may look like they have it all together on the outside, you never know what kind of knifes edge they are balancing on the inside. The difference between them shrinking back or stepping forward may well be your words of encouragement.
Never underestimate the power your prophetic voice can have on someone else’s destiny!
