Shelved for a Purpose

The fridge door shelf is the most prime real estate position in the entire fridge. It’s a place of prominence that all kinds of condiments seek after and is the envy of every bottle of drink and carton of milk!
This shelf is unlike any other, as up until this point every other shelf is only a place of storage; a place of ease where nothing more is required of the one taking up the space than simply existing. Although these shelves are safe, life is dull and monotonous and void of any purpose.
But for those who are taken from storage and placed in the fridge door, life becomes filled with adventure. Who knows who might open the door!
Although it’s a great honour, sitting in this place of prominence will always costs you something as you literally give everything you have until your destiny or purpose has been fulfilled.
However you also have the freedom to choose another option. If you don’t want to risk everything you can simply wait until your time has expired, and reach the end of your shelf life without achieving the very thing you have been created for.
Ether was a young woman who was also ‘taken out of storage’ and positioned in a place of prominence at the very time her own people were threatened with annihilation. Recognising the purpose behind her promotion, her uncle begged her to approach the king, the only one left who had the authority to save God’s people.
But this was almost too much for Esther to handle, as in the prime of her youth she was asked to risk her own life:
“[Everyone knows] that [anyone who] approaches the king without being summoned [will] be put to death unless [he] extends the gold scepter to them and spares their lives” – Esther 4:11 (NIV)
Mordecai answered her saying,
“Who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?” (4:14)
Immediately Esther realised that if she didn’t give everything she had, she may end up with nothing at all:
“I will go to the king. If I perish, I perish” (4:16)
Just like Esther, we too have the choice to either live in the safe zone until our expiry date or risk everything we have as we recognise we have been shelved for a purpose!
