Every now and then I go through my phone to uninstall the apps that I never actually use anymore. Some apps sounded like a great idea at first, but in the end just use up memory and precious real estate space on the home screen.
But annoyingly there are some apps you can never delete because they are permanently installed. With some of these I create a junk folder so I can group them out of sight and away from view. But they still annoy me because they are always there in the back of my mind!
There are also some things in life that are not permanent. Circumstances can change, life stages are always merging from one into the next, and more than the previous generations we can shift or jump from one job or career path to the next.
But there are also some things that have been permanently installed into the very fabric of our being that although may be forgotten about or neglected for a season, can never be deleted.
Even though Israel had continuously rejected God and His purpose for them, God never uninstalled or deleted the call and gifts He had originally given them:
'Many of the people of Israel are now enemies of the Good News, and this benefits you Gentiles. Yet they are still the people he loves because he chose their ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. For God's gifts and his call can never be withdrawn' – Romans 11:28-29 (NLT)
These gifts and the call of God was even more permanent than the apps on our phone that are impossible to delete. Even though Israel had thrown their gifts and call into the trash bin, they still remained installed – and the doors of destiny remained open to Israel no matter how far they had drifted from Gods original intent.
Just like Israel, you may have rejected, run from or neglected Gods purpose for your life. But no matter how far you have run, the doors of destiny remains open for anyone who wants to return to the greatest adventure.
Maybe you think you have gone too far or even become an 'enemy of God'. But take heart knowing that if the call remained with Israel, it also remains with you. Drag the call and gifts out of the trash bin to put it in the place of prominence it fully deserves!
