Catch Them When You Can

Thoughts are like birds. While they are right in front of you they are easier to catch, but when the fly off into the sky they become impossible to reach.

The earlier you can catch yourself out in destructive a thought pattern the easier it is to get your thinking under control. But if you allow your thoughts to wander off into the sky like a balloon that has escaped the grip of a child, the harder they are to control.

Thoughts are one of the most powerful forces in the world, because thoughts give birth to dreams and dreamers change the world.

Everything we see around us – both great and small began with a thought. The invention of the plane, the internet, the iPhone – and even yourself all began with a thought.

Before God spoke the universe into being, it all began with a thought. The good news is that each of us have been made in the image of God, the ultimate creator, and have each been given the capacity to create and dream with God. He wants us to dream big! To dream of the ways we can make the world a better place and demonstrate His love to every person.

But our greatest asset can also be our greatest downfall. ‘With great power comes great responsibility’, and we are each responsible to take care of own thought life.

The devil understands the power of our thinking, and continuously seeks to use past hurts, temptations, fear and worry to dampen our creative potential and steal our joy.

Buddha once said that “your worst enemy cannot harm you as much as your own unguarded thoughts”. No matter what environment you have been brought up in or what situation your find yourself in, nothing is more detrimental to your future than destructive thinking.

Louise L. Hay said, “I don’t fix problems. I fix my thinking. Then problems fix themselves”. No wonder Paul encourages us to control our thinking:

‘Take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ’ – 2 Corinthians 10:5b (NIV)

Don’t allow your thoughts to control you any longer. But reach out and control them. As you filter them through the truth and character of Jesus you will discover a new found freedom and increased capacity to create and dream with God!
