Divine Strategy

One of the highlights of our honeymoon was nestling into a cosy dining room to play chess and devour homemade hot apple pie.

As smoky white clouds flowed upstream and engulfed the precariously placed hotel clutching to the side of the Nepalese mountain, nothing else existed except for married love and our frowned concentration on the small pieces of carved black and white stone in front of us.

The aim was to take out each other’s king, but there were many other moves that had to take place before the game was won. Although stationary for most of the game, I knew that at the right time my castle would play a crucial role in moving in for the kill.

If I moved the castle even a solitary square to the left or right it would have been automatically disqualified from making the strategic ‘castle move’. Even as I moved other pieces all over the board, keeping the castle stationary was a key part of my strategy, and whether it realised its significance or not, I needed it to remain still.

There are also times in our life where we can feel like we are being kept in our corner, or even blocked or prevented from take another step forward.

However there are times where it’s not people or the enemy that are working against us, but the Holy Spirit preventing us from taking that next step. There is a divine strategy at work, and you play a crucial part of the overall plan.

Paul was prevented not once, but twice in a short period of time by the Holy Spirit from taking his next step:

‘Having been kept by the Holy Spirit from preaching the word in the province of Asia… they tried to enter Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus would not allow them to’ – Acts 16:6-10

Paul may have felt like God was working against him, but he kept a soft heart and listened for the voice of the Holy Spirit:

‘During the night Paul had a vision… so we concluded that God had called us to [go to Macedonia]’ (16:9-10)

You have not been forgotten. Trust in the wisdom and timing of the Holy Spirit to lead you to a greater place than you could ever imagine!
