Every Room Counts

In a house, every room counts.

Every room of a house has its own important function that contributes to a cohesive whole and the end goal of providing a home where people can thrive in life.

The kitchen is the place to store those late night snacks while the shower provides a space for creative contemplation. Without a toilet to hide in the publishing industry would suffer huge loss as there would be nowhere else to read those glossy home improvement and wedding magazines!

Just as every room in a home matters to those who live in it, so every part of our life matters to God. His desire is to fill every room of our life with the power and purpose of the Holy Spirit.

The bible describes our bodies as being ‘temples’ of the Holy Spirit, a place where His presence resides, and God has a creative plan and solution for every single room, just as the Holy Spirit had a detailed plan for every room of the temple Solomon built:

‘Then David gave his son Solomon the plans of all that the Spirit had put in his mind for the courts of the temple of the Lord and all the [inner rooms and] surrounding rooms’ – 1 Chronicles 28:11-12

The temple of the Old Testament was a shadow of heavenly things to come in the future and also represents the rooms of our heart in the present. Although God’s desire is to bring life to every room of our lives, it’s up to each one of us as to whether we will either let Him in or lock Him out.

The areas of life we gain a Spirit led purpose and intention for are transformed forever, but the rooms remaining locked end up becoming a dumping ground for all kinds of junk and clutter like an unused room in a house.

As we follow the Spirit’s leading we will automatically keep every room free from the junk that relentlessly looks to fill every space:

‘Let Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves’ – Galatians 5:16

Make every room count. Invite the Holy Spirit to fill every place, and you will discover God’s purpose and intent is to breathe life and creativity into every space!
