Rise From the Ashes

Just as a fire is stoked and kept alight to keep others warm, so the gifts we receive from the Holy Spirit are given not to serve our own interests, but to serve and those around us.

The purpose behind the gift is not for our own benefit but for the common good:

‘There are different kinds of gifts [and] to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good’ – 1 Corinthians 12:4&7

But there are times in life that the embers of our passion can begin to die out like an abandoned campfire and may be at risk of being snuffed out altogether.

But God never starts a fire with the intention to end up with piles of ash. Instead, He wants us to fan into a flame the gifts He has given us:

‘Fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you… for the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid and fearful’ – 2 Timothy 1:6-7a

At times it takes some practical steps to keep the fire going. It may mean you need to spend some time in prayer or read books, listen to podcasts or spend time with people who will spark your fire. Taking the time to cut and prepare the wood you need to stoke your fire is worth the effort.

One of the quickest ways to put out your fire is to give into fear. When fear gets in it can completely debilitate and rob you from living the adventure God has called you to.

The fear of what others might think about you if you step out off the edge can keep you chained to the past as sure as the lie that your too young, too old, not good enough or that others are better than you anyway so why should you even try?

Some will hold back because of the fear of failure or loss of reputation, and others may even fear the pressures, challenges and changes that come with success!

But don’t waste time with the if. Decide to step out and allow God to lead and refine along the way. Start from where you are, and stir up the gift the Holy Spirit has given you. People are waiting. God is waiting!

Rise from the ashes and come alive on the inside as you fan your gift into a flame that burns brightly for Him!
