Wind Power

The Kiwi capital of New Zealand is the windiest city in the world.

Every year ‘Windy Wellington’ endures an average of 22 days over 74km/h and 173 days above 59km/h of wind speed, with an overall average of 27km/h.

Not only does this endless breeze provide perfect kite flying conditions and fresh, clean air, but it also keeps the 62 wind turbines scattered amongst her hills providing power to her people. Thanks to this relentless movement in the atmosphere, New Zealand is the only country in the world that has removed all government energy subsidies.

The Holy Spirit is described by Jesus as being like the wind. The Holy Spirit is always moving, “blowing wherever [He] pleases”, executing the plans and purposes of God on the earth. Although the wind in Wellington will have its still days, the Holy Spirit never stops moving and is always active.

When the Holy Spirit came upon Jesus it caused Him to move into the lives of people who needed it most:

‘God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and [He] went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil’ – Acts 10:38

As the Holy Spirit came upon the disciples they were moved not only in their hearts, but began to move out from Jerusalem, through Samara and to “the ends of the earth”:

‘Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit’ – John 20:21-22

Just as the Holy Spirit was moving 2000 years ago, so is He also moving in the present. He no longer lives in the past, but lives today and continues to seek those who will fly their kites and catch the breeze.

When the Holy Spirit comes, no one stays still. He makes dreams come alive, setting people free from complacency to live a life filled with purpose and adventure as they live for someone and something so much greater than themselves.

The Wind is always blowing. But it’s up to us to raise the sails and catch the wind that will give us the power and energy to move wherever He leads!
