Happen Stance

No matter how many whispers of direction or stern looks we gave, nothing could prevent the inevitable glass being knocked over and water splashing all over the table and floor. Despite our best attempts, controlling three kids at a friends dinner table can be almost impossible!

Although we do our best to control situations, things outside of our control happen all the time. The weather happens, traffic jams happen, circumstance and people, hurt and disappointment happens to the best of us. If life came down to how lucky we were to avoid something bad happening, then for many of us, life would be looking pretty uninspiring.

But the good news is that the Holy Spirit has the power to lift us from a place of defeated victim to a place of courageous victor. Paul expressed to the church in Philippi that through their prayers the Holy Spirit had had taken his step down into prison and transformed it into a step up into freedom:

“I know that through your prayers and God’s provision of the Spirit of Jesus Christ what has happened to me will turn out for my deliverance” – Philippians 1:19 (NIV)

Through the power of the Spirit, Paul’s situation had completely been transformed. Although he remained in exactly the same place and his external situation remained the same, the Holy Spirit began to move within him, bringing purpose to Paul in a place that should have ended him.

In the same way, the Holy Spirt is able to lift us from a place of defeat to a place of victory. Despite even the best efforts of Satan to destroy your hope and zest for life, Jesus always has the last say:

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; [but] I have come that [you] may have life, and have it to the full” – John 10:10 (NIV)

Despite the things that have happened or may happen in the future, Jesus wants us to live a life that is full and abundant. As we stand on God’s promise, the Holy Spirit will lift us from victim to victor and give us the power to step up into freedom as we trust in Him!
