Every move we make originates from or passes through our core.
These muscles connect our upper and lower body like a sturdy link in a chain and determines how well the rest of our body will function in every day activities like sweeping the floor or more athletic movements like going for goal on the sports field.
The core takes the strain of impact so the load doesn’t land directly onto our bones. It provides stability and balance to our spine while also preventing chronic back pain, poor posture and even bladder issues.
The earlier you begin building your core strength, the better off you will be in the long run. It’s never too late to start!
The Holy Spirit provides us with a strength that is even more important than the core muscles of our body. He gives us a spiritual inner strength that determines how well we function in every aspect of life.
Paul recognised the importance of developing this ‘core strength’, and prayed that the Ephesians would receive this for themselves:
‘I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith’ – Ephesians 3:16-17 (NIV)
The good news for them and us is that this core strength is not something we need to pay a gym membership for, but something we simply receive through faith. The moment we received Jesus into our hearts is the moment the Holy Spirit begins to build the spiritual core that provides the strength we need for life.
The secret to this spiritual core is Jesus Himself, and the more we deny our own desires and and give space for the life of Jesus to shine through, the stronger our core will become:
‘My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me’ – Galatians 2:20a (NLT)
Christ in you through the power of the Holy Spirit is your core strength for life. The earlier you begin building your core spiritual strength, the better off you will be in the long run.
