Radiator Leak

Our car has a really bad leak. Like really bad.

It’s so bad that every time we leave the house we’ve got to pop up the bonnet and fill up the radiator with a generous amount of fresh water to keep our car running so we can get to where we want to go.

A few weeks ago I was on my way to drop Jess and Oscar off to the airport, but I completely forgot to top it up before we left. As we were happily driving down the freeway I didn’t notice the temperature gauge steadily climbing into the red zone, and I got a shock when the alarm suddenly told us the car had overheated. We pulled over to let the car cool down and called an Uber to take Jess and Oscar the rest of the way. It was a hard lesson never to never neglect filling up our water levels!

Just like our car, all of us leak. Some of us leak faster than others (and I’m not talking about that kind of leak!), so we need to be continuously ‘filled up’ so we can get to where we want to go without burning out.

The bible tells us ‘not be drunk on wine, but be filled with the Holy Spirit’ (Ephesians 5:8). The word ‘filled’ in the Greek is the “continual” present tense and literally translates, “be continually filled with the Spirit.” Although there is one baptism in the Holy Spirit, we also need to be continuously filled.

Although I would never advocate for drinking too much, if a person wants to remain intoxicated, they need to be continuously drinking. Drinking too much in one night doesn’t mean they remain drunk for the rest of their lives!

Just like my car, we need to daily be filled afresh with the Holy Spirit. I never leave the house without filling up the water in my car because I know I won’t make it very far if I don’t make it a priority. If I neglect to do it because I’m too busy or have other priorities, I will undoubtably pay the price.

Never neglect to fill up your ‘radiator’ before you start the day. As you make it a priority, you will remain fresh and ready for anything and everything God has for you!
