Come To the Water

It’s ironic that one of the most enjoyable parts of your wedding day can also be one of the most challenging!

A limited budget means limited reception seating, which leaves the two of you with the excruciating decision of who will and who won’t be invited to join you in celebrating the best day of your life.

There is however, one event where there is no limit to the number of people who can attend, and where the invitation is open to all:

‘The Spirit and the bride say, “Come” … “Let anyone who is thirsty come. Let anyone who desires drink freely from the water of life’ – Revelations 22:17 (NLT)

No one will ever be turned away, as the invitation to drink is open to anyone and everyone. The only requirement is that anyone who wishes to enter would come thirsty! Now although some people may attend a wedding with a thirst for one kind of beverage, the type that this verse talks about is a thirst for something much more significant than beer or wine.

As Jesus spoke with a lonely woman, He recognised in her a thirst for truth, forgiveness, loving acceptance and belonging that far outweighed her thirst for the water contained in the ancient well in front of them. Despite the fact that Jesus knew exactly what kind of secret life she had been living, He invited her to drink from the water only He could give:

“Anyone who drinks this water will soon become thirsty again. But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.” – John 4:13-14 (NLT)

In that very moment this broken woman was made whole and her thirst was satisfied. She had finally ended her life long search for what the world was never able to give her.

This same invitation goes out to all, and no one is excluded. And the Holy Spirit’s invitation is not to an event or a place, but to a person who waits for you run to the water today!
