Invitation Broadcast

In total contrast to the trend in previous years, instead of growing larger in size, the screens in our home have become increasingly smaller.

A couple of years ago we got rid of our TV, so whenever we want to have a few minutes of quiet, rather than sticking the kids in front of ABC2, they now sit with their eyes fixed to the iPad!

Our 54 inch plasma screen has been replaced by my iPhone as the devise I now watch AFL, but as I’ve watched, I’ve discovered that although the screen size matters to a certain extent, it’s the ultimately the quality of the program that matters the most.

In the final chapter of the bible, the greatest invitation is given to the entire world:

‘The Spirit and the bride say, “Come” … “Let anyone who is thirsty come. Let anyone who desires drink freely from the water of life’ – Revelations 22:17 (NLT)

There is a special, mystical relationship between the Holy Spirit and the Church. The invitation is sent from the Holy Spirit and broadcast through the church. The Holy Spirit uses the church to deliver the message into the ‘lounge rooms’ of people’s lives, while the church needs the Holy Spirit’s power behind the invitation.

Anyone who has ever been a part of the church also understands that it comes in all shapes and sizes and is full of imperfect people. Some churches (or people within those churches) are 72 inch HD Plasma screens, while others are old school box set TV’s who still broadcast in black and white!

But what matters more than what type of screen the broadcast is televised through is the quality and content of the program and it’s message. Just as a video can still be watched on a smashed phone screen, so too does the Holy Spirt empower the church in all her brokenness to broadcast the invitation for all to come and drink.

Empowered by the Holy Spirit, the church in all of its brokenness and diversity will always exist for one reason and one reason only: To broadcast the invitation for anyone to come and be satisfied with the living waters that only Jesus can give!
