Have you ever been promised something, only to be left with the disappointment of a broken promise?
I remember my friend in grade one invited me to his house after school with the promise that I’d be able to ride his motorbike on his race track.
I walked to his house, full of anticipation and excitement. But when it came to revealing his ‘motorbikes’ I realised he’d exaggerated the truth, as the closest thing to a motorbike were the two tricycles sitting on the garage floor!
When it comes to advancing our careers, finding better job opportunities or strengthening our financial stability we can fall into the trap of placing our hope in the promises made by people in positions of power and influence.
Although it’s good to trust others, God warns us not to place our hope in what people can give us. Proverbs 11:7 says, ‘Hopes placed in mortals die with them; all the promise of their power comes to nothing’ (NIV).
Instead, God invites us to place our ultimate hope in Him. People will always have a limited capacity as to what they can deliver us, but God has the power to to give you more than you could ever imagine as you trust in Him!
