So often things just don’t turn out like we planned.
An unwelcome sickness can interrupt momentum, decisions made by others else can alter our course, and at times the doors we expected to open remain comprehensively closed. Sometimes we can begin to wonder where God is in all of this or why He’s allowed it to happen.
Although the bible doesn’t give us a definitive answer for why particular things have happened in past, it does give us a very clear way for us to move forward – assuring us that in the mystery of His sovereignty, God has the power to work all ‘these things’ together for our good:
The author of Romans 8:28 says, ‘We know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose’ – Romans 8:28 (NIV)
Note that God doesn’t only use the good things, but that He works all things – including our mistakes and failures, and those things that are far beyond our control – to outwork His purposes for our life.
Without neglecting the importance of personal responsibility to walk in obedience, never forget that God is behind the scenes working all things together for your good!
