What are the things in your life that are yet to exist?
We already know the things that have existed in the past and that still exist in the present; but what about the things that are still yet to exist in the future?
Maybe it’s a dream. Maybe it’s a sense of purpose or destiny. Maybe it’s an invention, a new business, a new relationship or a new career. There are still amazing things in our lives that are yet to exist, and the possibilities are only limited by our imagination!
But there is one thing that can rob is from seeing these dreams and possibilities come into existence. All too often we can let what has already existed in he past strangle our belief of what could possibly exist in the future. The limitations of the past threaten to define the parameters of the future, and we are locked into a cycle of unfulfilled dreams and stunted growth.
Abraham had a dream that he would one day have a son who would give birth to a nation so great they would outnumber the stars. However he was faced with the reality of what had existed in the past and what he saw in the present: his wife was barren while Abraham himself was approaching 100 years old.
But despite the evidence, Abraham believed in God. Although nothing existed in the present, he believed that God would bring it into existence in the future:
‘[Abraham believed that] he is… the God who gives life to the dead and calls into being what does not yet exist’ – Romans 4:17b (BSB)
Abraham’s dream was as good as dead. But his faith unlocked the promise and released God’s supernatural power to bring into existence the very thing that did not exist in the past. Abraham refused to be limited by what he saw in the present. Instead, he put his faith in the one ‘who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think’ – Ephesians 3:20 (NLT)
Never let your dreams of what could exist in the future be limited by what has existed in the past, but set your hope in God who is able to breathe life into those things that are dead, and bring into existence that which does not yet exist!
