In the same way the dashboard in your car gives you key indicators as to the health of your car, the words you use is a key indicator of what is truly going on in your heart.
A person full of goodness in his heart produces good things; a person with an evil reservoir in his heart pours out evil things. The heart overflows in the words a person speaks;
‘Your words reveal what’s within your heart’ – Matthew 6:45 (The Voice)
When I get squeezed or go through high pressure situations, the words that come out of my heart give me an indicator as to whether I am walking in love and forgiveness or envy and pride.
I can convince myself I’m full of love and grace when everything is going well, but when the heat gets turned up and I get squeezed like a toothpaste tube, I’m often surprised by whats comes out of my mouth!
But rather than being discouraged, this indicator is a great help for me because when I recognise what is going on below the surface I can run to the only one who can truly change me on the inside. I go to Jesus because He is the one who gives me the grace and help when I need it most!
‘So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most’ – Hebrews 4:16 (NLT)
Rather than washing your mouth out with soap, go to the one who can change you on the inside so that what comes out on the outside indicates a heart full of life and love!
