Turn, Talk & Trust

What to do when you are tempted.

TURN:

When Joseph was tempted, he didn’t stick around to see if he was strong enough. He knew he needed to get out of there – and quick! Turn or flee from any situation you know would lead you into temptation:

‘Run from anything that stimulates youthful lusts’ – 2 Timothy 2:22a

Turn away from sin now. The earlier you do this, the less it will get hold of you and become a habit that is even harder to break in the future. Getting married fixes nothing!

TALK:

The greatest tool that the enemy has in keeping you in bondage is that you keep your sin to yourself so it festers in the dark. “You are the only one”. “You have gone too far this time” are some of the enemy’s lies.

Talking is one of the hardest things to do, but find a trusted friend, leader, parent or friend you can be open and honest with and tell them about your temptations and get some prayer:

‘Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed’ – James 5:16

When your sin is brought out into the light, it loses its hold or power over you and with prayer you can be healed of its effects.

TRUST:

At the end of the day, we have all failed or fallen in some way. The thing we all have in common is that we need the love and forgiveness that is found in Jesus.

Your relationship with Jesus is not based on how well you perform; you were not saved by how good you are, and neither is your relationship maintained by your own efforts at purity.

‘God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God’ – Ephesians 2:8

God is faithful to forgive us:

‘But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness’ – 1 John 1:9

TURN, TALK & TRUST. Follow these principles and you will give yourself the best chance to resist temptation and discover a satisfying, fulfilling relationship with the man or woman God has for you to enjoy the adventure of life with!
