Tap Into Power

Back in the days of ‘Hey Hey It’s Saturday’, Steve Murkel (“Did I do that?”) and ‘Full House’, if the weather was bad and the TV screen started to go fuzzy, then the most experienced aerial adjuster would get up from the couch and manipulate the wires to tap into some better reception.

Sometimes the only way to get the best reception was to stand in a particular part of the room, a very precise distance away from the TV, with one arm up in the air and the other touching the tip of the aerial. If you wanted good reception, you had to be willing to look a little silly to get it!

It’s the same way when it comes to accessing and releasing the power of God in and through your life. Sometimes you’ve got to be willing to look a little different or out of place if you want to tap into His power:

‘For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God’ – 1 Corinthians 1:18 (ESV)

The person that walks past the house and looks through the front window will chuckle to themselves, as they may not see the TV and understand why the crazy person is standing in such a weird position. But due to their commitment to watching the rest of ‘Red Faces’ and finding out what prize the contestant will get on ‘Pluck A Duck’, the aerial master refuses to budge no matter how foolish they might look to passers by!

The way of God and the Gospel is completely opposite to the way that the rest of the world operates. If you want power, you’ve got to be willing to look foolish. If you try to please both God and man at the same time, then you will be left with average reception but still look a little strange.

The truth is that the name of Jesus is confronting. No amount of padding, no amount of pleasantries or niceties can hold back the power and majesty of His name. The name of Jesus pierces the darkness and cuts right through the cardboard cut outs of the life we like to put on show for others.

Become an expert aerialist. Refuse to fear what others might think and tap into the unlimited power of Jesus name!
